The name Ogham is derived from Oghma, the Celtic God of elocution or fine speech. Ogham is an ancient linear script and is the first known written language of Ireland. The Ogham alphabet consists of groups of lines from one to five, set across a vertical stem-line. Each group represents a different letter. It was used mainly for commemorative inscriptions.
Our brand new Ogham pendant is inspired by the new blockbuster film in the Star Wars series, which was shot here in West Kerry, Ireland, on Skellig Michael! The rugged and rustic island, Skellig Michael, was used as the location for the planet Ahch-to, the sanctuary of the Last Jedi.
Historically, the island was one of the earliest monastic settlements in Ireland, dating back to 600AD. It was later used as a pilgrimage site, where one would climb 670 steps to reach the entrance to the settlement and beehive huts.
This personalized Ogham pendant is a truly unique form of Irish Jewelry. It is inscribed with the ancient Celtic alphabet who's origins travel back into the very ancient past. The Dingle peninsula, who to Brian de Staic Jewelers, is an area rich in ancient art and provides a rich source of inspiration for these unique pieces of Celtic jewelry.
