Product Care

It is important to keep your jewellery looking as good as it makes you feel. At Brian De Staic we offer a great range of jewellery care and services.

Take a look at some of our list of frequently asked questions to help you care for your special pieces:

Does gold tarnish?

Gold does tarnish and scratch over time. To preserve the luster of your gold jewelry, avoid exposure to household bleach and other cleaning products, which will quickly cause gold to discolor and possibly disintegrate. We recommend that you store your gold jewelry in a safe place when engaging in these activities below.

Does sterling silver tarnish?

Sterling silver tarnishes when exposed to salty air, chlorine, sulfur, humidity, perspiration, cosmetics, household bleach and other strong chemicals. To prevent tarnish as much as possible, we recommend that you store your fine jewelry in a safe, dry place while doing the below activities:

  • Performing household and outdoor chores (i.e., cleaning and gardening)
  • Showering, bathing or swimming in pools, hot tubs, hot springs and the ocean
  • Using lotion, hair products, fragrances and other cosmetics
  • Exercising at the gym or during contact sports
  • Preparing meals

How to remove scratches from my jewellery?

Only polishing will remove scratches from gold and silver. We offer full clean and polish services in our workshop.

Take care to protect your jewelry from impact against hard surfaces and avoid contact with abrasive surfaces—even a diamond can chip if hit with enough force or at just the right angle

How to store jewellery at home?

If your jewellery is used frequently, avoid excessive exposure to air and store it in a tarnish-proof cloth, or a storage box - even a simple ziploc will work! Try to use a separate bag for each item.

How often should I get my jewelry cleaned?

We recommend customers bring jewelry in at least once a year. Items worn regularly should be cleaned and checked every few months. This is especially true for engagement rings but applies to all regularly worn pieces.
