THE STORY :
Beautiful, rare & elegant simplicity: The rectangular natural black gemstones used in these pieces are 188 million years old. Every piece in our Carraig Dubh collection is a unique miniature work of art crafted in 14 karat gold in our studio on the shores of Dingle bay.
Brian de Staic combines two of his passions in this pendant design- His lifetime’s love of Dingle's monastic site in Kilmalkedar and the beauty of Carraig Dubh. It is inspired by the window in the east wall of the church in Kilmalkedar, called "the eye of the needle". According to local legend, if you can fit through the window in the east wall, you are certain to go straight to heaven!
“An rud is annamh is iontach” - 'The rarest and most wonderful thing' is an old Irish proverb that sums up what our latest collection, Carraig Dubh, is all about.
The creative journey from rough stone to a polished smooth gemstone is a highly skilled labour of love, and patience, using age-old local knowledge and traditional techniques. Its innovative and exciting and allows you to wear an ancient piece of Ireland.
Your BdeS original Carraig Dubh is presented in our luxurious black signature box. Hallmarked in Dublin Castle and stamped with our maker’s mark, BdeS. All Carraig Dubh Collection will include a personal note signed by the master jeweller Brian de Staic.
