The Story
The Fionán Pendant is inspired by the beautiful decorated Cross Slab at Kilfountain, on the Dingle Peninsula. The slab is inscribed with the ancient Ogham Alphabet, beautiful La Tena art and the name Finten. The name Ogham is derived from Oghma, the Celtic God of elocution or fine speech. Ogham is an ancient linear script and is the first known written language of Ireland. The Ogham alphabet consists of groups of lines from one to five, set across a vertical stem-line. Each group represents a different letter. It was used mainly for commemorative inscriptions.
Make it extra special - Our handcrafted pendants can be engraved on the back with your name in the original Ogham script - Ireland's first known written language. This script is made of linear markings, each set of lines corresponding with a letter. Engrave your name or a special word up to 12 characters.
This unique piece of history comes with a leaflet to explain the history of the original Alphabet Stone and a leaflet to explain the custom Ogham inscription. It has been Irish hallmarked by the Assay office at Dublin castle. The pendant comes presented in a beautiful Brian de Staic display box.
