Bridget or Brígid is an elusive figure in the medieval Irish tradition.
She is regarded as one of the three great Patron Saints of Ireland. Her Feast-day, February 1st is one of the great Irish Festival days.
The St. Bridget's Cross of Cros Bhríde is also associated with the celebrations of Brid's Feast day. Made from rushes it was fashioned on the eve of her feast day and placed over the door of the house on the inside as a form of protection and blessing for the house. Various styles of Bridget's Cross exists. There are regional variations in different parts of Ireland.
